Storyline:
A slice of family life: sisters, husbands, children, history, secrets, jealousies. Margot and her teen son, Claude, travel from Manhattan to her family's Long Island home, occupied by sister Pauline, Pauline's daughter, and Malcolm, the slacker Pauline will marry outdoors that week under a tree neighbors want removed. Backbiting marks family discussion, particularly between the sisters and in Margot's cutting remarks to Claude. Pauline tells Margot a secret that Margot promptly tells Claude. Margot dislikes Malcolm and undermines him. She also has marital problems and a lover nearby. People are cruel, inside and outside their families. Is there a refuge for Margot or for Pauline?

This movie is the absolute worst that Kidman has ever made. The director should never be allowed behing the camera ever again!
Most of the scenes were so dark one could not see the characters. At least a thind of the dialogue was mumbled and could not be heard. The plot was never clear nor defined in even a minimal manner. Jack Black should never cry!!! It was so phoney and truly pathetic. Characters jumped into a scene without definition and one was left wondering "who was that person"?
To most of the cast, my advise is that you could do much better. Don't cheapen your careers.
To future viewers, in short, don't waste your time or your money on this film.

This was a very slow-paced, character study that while it has its moments, is not what I would call a "worth $10" flick. This is great for when you are at home, the writer strike is 6 months old, and you watch this instead of a rerun of CSI. This was so boring, and so mindless, with enough stupid nakedness for no reason, and idiotic scripts, it was like watching idiots on the screen and also simultaneously being surrounded by idiots who were watching the idiots. I am surprised that an actress like Nicole Kidman would do this. And I would have thought that Jack Black was beyond needing this.

This film was so dreary, dark and dismal that after the first fifteen minutes we had to leave. It could have been something, maybe it ends up being something, btu it was worse than waiting for Godot.
